Meetings of the TCHC are held at 11:00 am on the first Monday (except holidays) of each month at the Trinity County Museum, 450 W. First Street, in Groveton.  All are welcome to attend. Call 936-642-0242 for details. 

 We are subject to the Open Meeting Act, so look for the posting at the County Courthouse.  TCHC is a duly constituted governmental organization reporting to Trinity County’s Commissioners’ Court, a constitutional county government of the State of Texas.  TCHC was organized in 1975 for the purpose of the preservation of the county's historic and cultural resources. 

This group works in various fields, including archeology, architecture, history, economic development, and heritage tourism for the benefit of present and future generations.  The historical commission helps identify and preserve historical sites and helps to preserve the heritage of Trinity County.  We have received several Distinguished Service Awards presented by Texas Historical Commission, the state agency for historic preservation. About Friends

The Friends of the Trinity County Historical Commission, Inc. (Friends) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the TCHC historic preservation mission.  The Friends help raise money to support projects such as the Trinity County Museum and other preservation projects. The Trinity County Museum is supported by funds raised through Friends fund raising efforts.

Support from the Friends comes from grants, and contributions from corporate, foundation and individual donors.  The partnership between the Friends and the TCHC allows the agency to leverage limited public funds through matching grant opportunities.

Friends consists of volunteers with in our community, overseen by a volunteer board and the Chairman of the TCHC.  To be a member of Friends an annual membership is required, and you do not need to be a member of the TCHC to participate in Friends.

 Friends Mission

Our mission is to provide private sector support, funding and assistance to the Trinity County Historical Commission for programs and activities to further the preservation, recognition and appreciation of our county's heritage.

Trinity County Beginnings. Patricia and Joseph Hensley.  The book price is $100.00 plus $15.00 shipping and handling, or may be purchased at the Trinity County Museum. 

Trinity County, A Legend of It's Own   This book is a library quality collection of tall tales, family stories and happenings of past times in Trinity County.  The book price is $60.00, plus $15.00 shipping.  "Legend" will make excellent gifts as well as a book you'll find entertaining and interesting reading. 

Trinity County Cemeteries -3rd Edition  Hardbound, library quality book, 8.5 X 11, with approximately 764 pages and will include some cemetery pictures.  The cost is $75.00 each, plus $15.00 shipping and handling.  Arrangements may be made for pickup or mailing. 

House of Thompson “The House of Thompson” was originally printed in 1908 for “The American Lumberman” magazine.  The book recounts the story of the Thompson brothers, the timber stands they purchased and sawmills they built to mill their timber in such East Texas towns as New and Old Willard, Doucette, Grayburg, and Trinity.  The book contains over 90 pages of rare photos that show the forests of the regions.  The cost is $30.00 each, plus $15.00 shipping and handling.
