CROWN
West Central county, east of Farm Road 1334, ten miles west of Jourdanton (285629N/0984424W)
Crown was established by a group of freed slaves, sometime after the Civil War.
Originally known as Lagunillas, the name “Crown” was adopted in 1900, when a post office was opened. A school was opened by 1904. Originally known as the Lagunillas School, the name was later changed to Crown School. By 1914, in addition to the post office, the settlement boasted a cotton gin and general store. The post office closed in 1923, and the school was consolidated with the Charlotte schools in 1933.
