This "red rock" courthouse served the people of Atascosa County from its completion in 1886 until the county seat was moved from Pleasanton to Jourdanton in 1910. It served as Pleasanton's city hall until the 1950s. The current Pleasanton city hall stands on a portion of the former grounds of this building.
